01 October, 2008 12:30 PM EST DRM, Copy Protection, Copyright Law and Consumers
Posted By: Michael McGuire, Research VP
What an interesting confluence of events this week. If anyone ever needed proof of the notion that lawyers are the only stakeholders making money on the analog-to-digital/physical-media-to-digital transitions for the media, the last couple of days should be confirmation. COMMENTS

I am just a consumer/end user, but I think:
No logical end. There will always be a hacker and cracker out there that will enjoy giving away what ever is produced. As social networking grows, and tough times prevail, more people will be inclined to buck the system, and learn these easy to do processes and/or be lazy and grab the pirated product. Those movie libraries they fear are already in existence and growing by leaps and bounds. Unless legislature attempts to censor the internet with an iron fist, the war of DRM will be lost to the masses. (You know DC is always a couple of years behind) How about the shift towards user interactive content like You Tube or the new Xbox game "You're in the movies". Maybe consumers are waking up to the fact that rights holders are just people too and may not be worth the full price that the content providers are asking. Then there is open source, smart people picking brains in a collaboration towards a common goal...for free! I could go on for hours. 20 March, 2009 03:26 PM EST Whenever is good production, there are always hackers that take advantage of it. It’s unbelievable how this stuff is managed in South America, you can buy music, movies at one buck. These people get the stuff before it even going to the stores.
