Last week we conducted Symposium Community teleconferences with Gartner Research and Events Program Management. If you missed it you can listen now. These 60-minute preparatory calls for registered Symposium Community members included commentary from Gartner Research on the overall role dynamics and challenges, elaborated on the specific sessions that address those challenges and pointed out who’s who on the analyst teams. Program Management followed, explaining the networking opportunities and other program highlights like Community-Led Roundtables, Community Surveys, Trip Reports, Community Capstone sessions and Symposium Communities Online.

Last Minute Tips

Symposium/ITxpo is just a week away and the excitement is brewing all around Gartner! Here are a few helpful hints before arriving in Orlando:

Monday: Register! If you have not done so already, no worries, it's not too late. Click here to register or call 1 800 778 1997. Be sure to book your flight and hotel while you are at it.

Tuesday: Plan your agenda for the week. With over 250 sessions there is so much to choose from. To help narrow things down we’ve created recommended agendas by role. Click here to visit agenda builder.

Wednesday: Be sure to check the latest travel policies to make sure your trip through the airport is seamless.

Thursday:
Once registered for the event keep an eye out for your Symposium Communities Online email invitation. Find out more about Symposium Communities.

Friday: Pack your bags. Find out 'weather' you should pack sunscreen or an umbrella.

Saturday: Take care of all your last minute errands and get a good night's sleep. You have a jam-packed week ahead of you where the information is plentiful, and the ZZZZZZ's are not.

Sunday:

XBRL … BRiLliant? Or Just Plain BuRLy?

XBRL, or eXtensible Business Reporting Language, is about to shake up the way all organizations report their finances, providing the foundation upon which forward-looking measures of financial performance will be developed under the Enhanced Business Reporting initiative. We’ll have an exciting panel at Symposium/ITxpo 2007 that delves into the opportunities and challenges that XBRL represents. Kicked off with taped remarks by U.S. SEC Chairman Christopher Cox, the panel will include live participation of the CIO of the SEC, the founding chairman of the XBRL Consortium, and the General Manager of Microsoft Money, all providing unique perspectives on this coming standard.
